ROMAERO and SIKORSKY – part of the Lockheed Martin group signed an industrial partnership agreement today, March 14, 2018, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy, in the presence of Economy minister, Danuţ Andruşca, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Chamber of deputies, Dorel Căprar, as well as representatives of the United States Embassy in Bucharest.

The industrial partnership between ROMAERO and SIKORSKY (part of the Lockheed Martin Group) focuses on activities that will ensure the long-term participation of several Romanian defense industry companies in the assembly, equipping, customization and maintenance of the multi-mission helicopter Sikorsky Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. The Bucharest Center will be the only one authorized by the Lockheed Martin Group to equip and maintain the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk multi-mission helicopter in Central Europe.

Statement by Mr. Dănuţ Andruşcă, Minister of Economy:

“The agreement signed today represents a confirmation of the potential of the Romanian industry, which is able to produce products with high added value. We look forward to seeing the concrete economic effects of this agreement and how quickly they will be felt at the level of the Romanian industry and economy. The Ministry of Economy will support the initiatives of subordinate companies that can lead to the revival of industrial activity. At the same time, this agreement is also a confirmation of good relations and strategic partnership between Romania and the United States of America.”

Statement by Eric Schreiber, Vice-President Sikorsky (part of Lockheed Martin Corporation):

“Our ability to provide the most viable land (ASuW) and anti-submarine combat Helicopter (ASW) could offer Romania for the most competitive price the necessary coverage of the strategic position it holds at the Black Sea” .

Statement by Mr. Remus Vulpescu, General Manager ROMAERO S.A .:

“The qualities of the Black Hawk helicopter are impressive: it can carry out missions in all seasons, can fly in the storm, day or night, is very fast and can carry a large number of passengers, protecting them even against cannon blows up to 23mm caliber. Equipped with weaponry, Black Hawk is comparable even with combat-specific aircraft. In humanitarian missions, it is hard to beat, and as an airborne border guard vehicle is particularly valuable.

ROMAERO will take all necessary steps to ensure the success of this project with coverage from Turkey to Poland. Our 100 years of experience in civil and military aeronautics, qualified human resources, educational infrastructure and production capabilities available in both Bucharest and our local partners make Romania attractive to the world’s largest military equipment manufacturers, as Lockheed Martin Corporation.

At a sectoral level, a high degree of cohesion of the defense industry and the positive approach of the political environment can bring Romania important opportunities for economic and technological development, especially in the context of increasing the level of commitment of our country in strategic partnerships, like the one with NATO “.
